The original multistrand necklace (1st–7th century) is made primarily of gold, which artisans in the Calima region of southwestern Colombia finessed into spectacular regalia during the Yotoco period (100 BCE–800 CE). The necklace that inspired this jewelry is one of several brilliant gold adornments made by Calima crafters in the Museum's holdings.
